Federer, Soderling in action on Day 6, Stockholm Open 2010, preview
Roger Federer, playing for the first time at Stockholm since 2000, will play his first match tomorrow against American Taylor Dent. The match is likely to begin at 10pm IST/4:30pm GMT.
Federer, the top seed in the tournament, will look to win just his third tournament of the year having earlier triumphed at the Australian Open and the Cincinnati ATP Masters 1000. The former world no. 1 has faced Dent just once before, at Miami last year where the Swiss won in straight sets.
In some of the other important games, second seed Robin Soderling will play Benjamin Becker while 4th seed Ivan Ljubicic plays Arnaud Clement. Soderling’s match is slated to begin at 11:45pm IST/6:15pm GMT while the Ljubicic-Clement encounter is expected to begin at 5:30pm IST/12noon GMT.
At the Kremlin Cup 2010, an ATP 250 tournament being held at Moscow, Radek Stepanek and Marcos Baghdatis were through to the next round.
Stepanek was a straight sets winner over qualifier Kukushkin Mikhail 6-3 6-2 whereas Baghdatis, a former Australian Open finalist beat Italy’s Starice Potito 6-4 6-3.
Nikolay Davydenko is the top seed in the tournament which is concurrently holding the WTA event there as well. Former no. 1 Jelena Jankovic is the highest ranked player with a number of budding Russian youngsters participating as well.
